// Practice

Her work investigates the shifting nature of memory and perception, using physical objects and places as material connections to experiences that are transient, fragmented, or difficult to visualize.

Moving between clarity and abstraction, stillness and disruption, Pate considers how lived experience is held, altered, and reconstructed through memory.

Shelly Pate is a Washington, DC–based visual artist working across photography, scanography,
alternative processes, and three-dimensional forms.
